The terraced Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort, located next to its sister resort Manaltheeram (about 10 mins away), is perched on a hill offering a spectacular sea view. The resort opened its doors in 1985 to welcome its first guests and has continually evolved since. It is accredited by NABH (Ayurveda Hospital), awarded 4 times by the government as "India's Best Ayurvedic Resort" with "HALL OF FAME" honours and 6 times by the state of Kerala as "Kerala State's Best Ayurvedic Resort". The fine sandy Chowara Beach (sun loungers, parasols, and beach towels included, please consult the lifeguard before swimming) is accessible via stairs or an elevator, which also leads to the newest sister resort, AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat.

Kerala, one of the most popular regions in South India, is renowned for its tropical climate, the extensive sandy beaches of the Malabar Coast, the Backwaters, waterfalls, and nature reserves with abundant wildlife.
Food & Drinks
Enjoy sea views and a varied, Ayurvedic buffet. The vegetarian local and international dishes are marked according to Dosha, allowing you to select according to your dietary plan with the help of a dietary advisor. Guests focusing on weight management receive personalised menus. Evening cooking demonstrations share the ancient knowledge of the Ayurvedic diet.
Ayurveda Center
The Ayurveda Center at Somatheeram is housed in two special bungalows, covering approximately 5,250 sqm, and is awarded the "Ayurveda SPA Europe Certificate" and the Ayur Diamond classification from the Department of Tourism Government of Kerala, the highest accolade for authentic Ayurveda (formerly Green Leaf). Equipped with 30 treatment rooms, a sauna, and a steam bath. Professional Ayurveda treatments are supervised by about 15 qualified Ayurveda doctors, specialists in various disciplines, and Ayurvedic therapists. The garden, with over 600 plant species, provides the ingredients for herbal medicine, which is produced in the on-site Ayurveda pharmacy. The supplementary Ayurvedic medicine used is exclusively plant-based. Soma Ayurveda Beauty Clinic offers body, face, and hair treatments tailored to your doshas.
Yoga
For Yoga and meditation with an experienced guru, two facilities are available. Group yoga sessions are held three times daily - tailored to different levels (morning: professionals, mid-morning: beginners, afternoon: advanced). Private sessions are also available for approximately €10/hour (approx. UK £9 / USD $11).
Post-Chemo Therapy
Quote from the Ayurveda Chief Doctor (2022): "21 days of immunization and revitalization programme along with body cleansing therapies such as Panchakarma [...], to recover from radiation therapy and rejuvenate the system. [...] we have excellent medicines in Ayurveda to rebuild the system post-surgery. If [the guest] undergoes our treatments and follow-up medications for 3 to 4 months, a positive recovery and body rebuilding is possible over time.
Leisure
Relax in the oyster-shaped outdoor pool (approximately 8 x 17 m) or spend your free time in the Internet cafe, tailor shop, or souvenir shop. Experience the cultural evening programme featuring traditional dance and music. The resort can also organize excursions to the surrounding area upon request.

The resort features 40 traditionally built Indian accommodations in a variety of stunning cottages and traditional Kerala houses, harmoniously integrated into the garden landscape. All rooms come with a shower/WC, telephone, ceiling fan, air conditioning, and seating in the garden/terrace. Garden Cottage with garden view, Special Cottage with side sea view, spacious Kerala houses with large bathrooms. Kerala Deluxe (with combined living and sleeping area) and Kerala Suite (with separate living and sleeping areas) additionally offer sea views. Single rooms are double rooms for single use. Wi-Fi throughout the resort and 24-hour room service.

A tropical paradise characterized by sustainability and love. Beautiful, close to the ocean, great doctors and masseurs. I feel energized and refreshed. But next time I would book 21 days instead of 14.
