The freshly renovated Sentido Galosol is part of a roughly 14,000 sqm resort consisting of 3 hotels (Sentido Galosol, Sentido Galomar & Alpino Atlântico Ayurveda Hotel, all non-smoking). The facilities of all hotels and the entire resort are available to all guests. The Sentido Galosol is ideal for relaxing or for active recreation, such as hiking.

Location & Surroundings

Located in one of the most beautiful spots in the south of Madeira, in the tranquil villa district of Caniço de Baixo, approximately 30 meters above the sea, is the Hotel Sentido Galosol. The bay is only about 2.5 km from the centre of Caniço and is situated on the climate-favoured side of the island. The unique location directly by the sea provides the perfect backdrop for your holiday in Madeira. The centre of Funchal is about 12 km away, and the airport is about 8 km away.

Dining & Leisure

Enjoy regional and international dishes at the buffet restaurant "Ondamar" with a terrace. Here, a rich breakfast and, with half board, dinner are served. At the "Blue Bar", with full board, an additional lunch menu (starter, main course, dessert) is available. Traditional Madeiran cuisine is served at the specialty à la carte restaurant "Atlantis", and Italian cuisine can be enjoyed at a pizzeria (at an additional cost). Additionally, you can savour fresh drinks at the pool bar and at the "Capoeira Bar" with a stunning sea view. Also available are local, organic, lactose-free, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan cuisine upon request.

Wellness & Spa

Relax by the outdoor pool and on the sun terrace with sea view, as well as in the indoor wellness area featuring an indoor pool (approx. 28°C), Finnish and bio saunas, steam bath, and sensorial showers. The neighbouring sister hotel, Sentido Galomar, also boasts a sea water outdoor pool, two panoramic saunas, an infrared cabin, and a steam bath.
Additionally, the resort's own bathing cove in the underwater nature reserve with direct sea access, the sea water pool, and the adults-only area (accessible by lift or stairs) are freely available to all resort guests.

The Ashoka Spa (approx. 400 sqm, open daily) at the neighbouring Sentido Galomar, inspired by nature and the five elements, offers a variety of massages, beauty and energy treatments, and was selected as one of the top 3 spas in the 'Green Spa' category at the Spa Star Awards 2019.

Fitness & Courses

In the professional Fitness Club Galo Active, spanning about 2,500 sqm, you have access to cardio and strength equipment. You can also book a qualified personal trainer (for a fee, approx. €45 (approx. UK £39 / USD $48) per hour). Additionally, you can participate in the sports programme with about 48 classes per week, such as Zumba, Step, Spinning, Pilates, Yoga, or Nordic Walking (some at a small fee). There is also a sports hall, squash, a volleyball court, and a basketball court (reservable on request, for a fee). A tennis court is located outside the facility nearby (approx. 500 m, for a fee).

Free Time

On-site diving base with diving school (approx. March-December), own mountain bike station, kayak rental, canyoning, swimming with dolphins, and other outdoor activities are available for booking. Additionally, Madeira is a magnificent hiking paradise, ideally suited for extensive hikes.

A bus stop is located about 100 metres from the hotel, and the Madeira Aquapark is about 15 km away.

18-hole Palheiro Golf Course (approx. 8 km) and 27-hole Santo da Serra Golf Course (approx. 18 km), green fees from approx. €100.

The rooms are located in the main building or in two adjacent buildings. All rooms feature a bathtub or shower (some with walk-in showers), toilet, hairdryer, air conditioning, safe, minibar, coffee/tea set, smart TV, telephone, and Wi-Fi. Suites (approx. 37 sqm) have a separate living area and toilet. Fitness Suite additionally equipped with private fitness facilities. Some rooms are equipped with yoga mats. Bathrobes can be rented at the reception for a fee (approx. €5/stay, €25 deposit, included with suites). All rooms are allergy-friendly (Ecarf-certified). One accessible room. Three elevators. It was a great vacation! Lovely spa, unfortunately a bit fully booked so we couldn't book massages at short notice. The hotel is in a great location.

If you love flowers and nature, you will feel like in paradise here. The hotel was very clean, asked a great offer of sports activities, pools, massages and a very good culinary offer. Also, many languages were spoken here, so even questions about leisure activities were easy to clarify. The staff was very accommodating and also requested a transfer to the airport. There are so many ways to spend your free time here. In general, I was satisfied all around. Only to recommend!!!

The overall package was absolutely right for me. The hotel is a very nice hotel, the rooms are tiptop, the quality of the food was very good. I really liked the yoga classes at the sister hotel Alpino Atlantico, the level is super good and the yoga teachers very good.
