Good to Know

Via a footpath you reach the core of the picturesque coastal village of Oia (about 400 m) - one of the most beautiful places in Santorini. Situated on the volcanic foothills of the island, it seems to float dreamlike above the sea with its whitewashed houses, windmills and blue church domes. Walking through the picturesque streets of the old town, you can admire the classic Cycladic architecture and the history of the fishing village, as well as beautiful views over the caldera of Santorini. A great view is offered here by the ruins of Londsa Castle, from which spectacular sunsets can be observed. In Oia, various cafes, restaurants, souvenir stores and art galleries invite you to feast or stroll.

The capital Fira is about 10 km away (approx. 20 min. drive). It is home to the Archaeological and Prehistoric Museum, the old harbor "Thiras" and a cable car to the upper part of the city. From the promenade you can catch beautiful views over the sea and the still active volcanic island of Nea Kameni. Fira also offers a variety of shopping, restaurants and cafes.

Also recommended are hikes on the islands, for example along the cliffs of the caldera or boat tours from Fira, which take you, for example, to the hot thermal springs of the offshore island of Palea Kameni.
