The tranquil altitude, healthy mountain air, and expansive views create the perfect conditions for restful days. The Notschrei cross-country skiing centre is just a few steps away. Freiburg is about 30 minutes away, and Basel is an hour away.

The Origin of the Name Notschrei

The unusual name "Notschrei" traces back to a historical cry for help from the population of the Wiesental. By the end of the 18th century, the communities demanded a road connection over the pass to overcome poverty and isolation, but without success for a long time. Finally, in 1847, after years of hardship, hunger, and unemployment, the citizens' petition was heard. The construction of the road began, and the name "Notschrei" remained as a symbol of this call for help. Even today, an obelisk at the hotel exit commemorates this significant piece of regional history.
