Anti-Stress & Burnout
R. and S. Nidich, C. Elder and F. Moriarty conducted a study on the effectiveness of Transcendental Meditation on psychological stress, depression and burnout.
The sample consisted of 40 secondary school teachers and staff from the Bennington School in Vermont, a therapeutic school for children with behavioral problems.
The subjects were randomly divided into a waiting list group and a meditation group, the latter of which underwent a program of Transcendental Meditation.
At the beginning of the study and after four months, perceived stress, depression and burnout symptoms were assessed. The analysis showed an improvement in the measured data in the meditation group, with a significant reduction in perceived stress compared to the control group.
Transcendental meditation thus proved to be effective in alleviating psychological problems such as stress, depression and burnout. These findings could have important implications for the mental and physical health of employees.
