Rheumatism / Joints / Arthritis / Arthrosis
The aim of this study conducted in Spain was to determine the effect of mud therapy on pain and health-related quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
A total of 121 patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group of 61 participants was treated with mud packs, while the control group received the usual drug treatment. All subjects were examined before and after the test period and the results were evaluated using SF-36, VAS; changes in the dose of medication were also determined.
At the end of the treatment period, there were significant differences between the two groups in all parameters; the dose of medication was reduced in the first group compared with no change in the control group.
As a result of the study, it can be concluded that mud therapy for knee osteoarthritis brings about immediate improvements in perceived pain intensity and health-related quality of life and that tablet consumption can be reduced.
