The French-Turkish study investigated whether balneotherapy can support the conventional treatment of chronic venous insufficiency.
The 192 test subjects with chronic venous insufficiency CEAP 3 or 4 were randomly divided into a balneotherapy group and a waiting list group for this study. In addition to the standard treatment, the first group received a ten-minute Kneipp therapy, ten minutes of walking in a mineral water pool with underwater bubbles at 23 degrees, a bath in mineral water at 34 degrees and a massage. The control group only received conventional therapy.
The results showed that 66% of patients in the balneotherapy group and 28% in the control group improved with a 20% change in the Chronic Venous Insufficiency Questionnaire. There were no side effects.
The significant differences in the two groups suggest that complementary balneotherapy improves the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency.
