The Bad Hofgastein spa center conducted a prospective study on the effectiveness of a combined radon thermal cure in its clinic.
The sample consisted of 222 patients suffering from musculoskeletal system therapy, who were admitted as inpatients for three weeks and underwent healing therapy in Bad Hofgastein between November 2008 and November 2009.
The test subjects were questioned at the beginning and after completion of the healing therapy as well as three, six and twelve months after the end of therapy about pain perception, days of sick leave, pain medication, functional capacity and well-being. The three-week treatment included 60 therapies with 43 physical therapy treatments, including eleven underwater movement therapies and six radon thermal baths.
The study showed that the VAS values, sick leave and concentration of medication decreased significantly, while functional capacity and well-being improved considerably. There was a clear medium to long-term success.
