The Silent Retreat is a programme designed for rejuvenation, reflection, and relaxation. Specialised instructors with decades of experience will guide you through the retreat. Of the 7 days, 4 will be spent in silence. The schedule includes meditation, deeply transformative breathing techniques, yoga, interactive exercises, and free time for walks. "Meditation is the journey from movement to stillness, from noise to silence" - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Focusing on your own well-being can make a significant difference. You will be professionally guided by the long-standing instructors Elke, Petra, and Marcel, who are always available for your questions. Learn more about your mind, thoughts, stress solutions, personal growth, and especially about your connection to the inner source of strength, peace, and silence. Through simple stretching and body exercises, powerful cleansing techniques, relaxing breathing techniques, and ancient, profound yet simple wisdom, you will experience a true holiday for the soul. Additionally, you will learn what it is like to spend several days in deep silence and take a break from constant connectivity and screen work (Digital Detox).
The Art of Living Silent Retreat begins with an introduction to breathing and meditation techniques and interactive exercises. During the introduction and the first one and a half days, speaking is still allowed as you get to know the other participants and prepare for the silence. Those who wish can enter into silence earlier. The following days include morning yoga sessions and about 3 sessions daily with meditations, yoga, and breathing exercises. During breaks, you can enjoy the garden or the surroundings of the Black Forest with its forests, streams, mountains, and meadows on extensive walks or book Ayurveda massages at the local Ayurveda Centre.
The Art of Living Center is located in a high valley, surrounded by hiking trails and the lush vegetation of the Black Forest, as well as deep tranquility only interrupted by the gentle sounds of streams and birdsong.
The meals on site are freshly prepared and vegetarian according to Ayurvedic principles. The light breakfast offering with fruits, muesli, porridge, homemade bread, various spreads, and tea gives you the perfect start to your day. Meals are mostly prepared with organic ingredients in a positive atmosphere, enhancing the flavour of the food. Snacks, drinking water, fruits, and tea are available around the clock. Additionally, specific dietary requests can be accommodated with advance notice.
In the Ayurveda area, you can indulge in massages, Ayurvedic health diagnostics (pulse diagnosis), and all classic treatments (for a fee).
You will be carefully guided during the silent period by experienced course leaders. Elke Heckmann, Petra Wüstenberg, Eva Legall Perera, and Britta Steiger are available for your questions at any time. All four are personally trained and certified by the founder of Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, as course leaders for silent retreats. They each have over 20 years of experience in leading breathing, meditation, and yoga courses.

The Art of Living Centre is a historic building in Bad Antogast, Oppenau in the Black Forest with its own architectural charm, making you feel immediately at home. The hotel has served as a place for relaxation and recuperation for the last 21 years. Over a century ago, it was a very famous spa visited by tsars, princes, and princesses. Today, it is permanently inhabited by people who care for guests from all over the world and the onsite Ayurveda Therapy Centre.

I liked the week very much. One comes to rest, arrives at himself and is very relaxed. I found the activities super, not too much or too little. Very great care and super nice people who work there.

The program was different from what I expected, which was perhaps also due to the fact that I had not dealt with the terms sufficiently beforehand. Overall, I was glad when it was over.

The house and the surroundings were very nice and you could relax well. However, the whole day was packed with program, which in my opinion is very questionable and has nothing to do with yoga, meditation and relaxation. I would never recommend it to anyone else and cut the vacation short early.
