Anti-Stress & Burnout
At the Mayo Clinic headquarters in Rochester, the organization tested the effectiveness of stress management and resilience training (SMART) to reduce stress among radiology physicians.
22 radiology physicians took part in the twelve-week blind study and were randomly assigned to either the SMART or a control group.
The program included a 90-minute group session of SMART training and two subsequent telephone calls.
After twelve weeks, there was a significant improvement in the SMART group compared to the control group in terms of perceived stress, anxiety, quality of life and mindfulness . Resilience also increased, but the results were not significant when comparing the groups.
The study shows that even a single 90-minute session of stress management and resilience training significantly reduced stress in radiologists and increased quality of life and mindfulness.
