This study investigated the effect of ashwagandha extracts (sometimes referred to as Indian ginseng) in the treatment of depression and anxiety in people with schizophrenia. The 66 patients were observed over a 12-week period, with some receiving the ashwagandha extracts while others were given a placebo. The results of the study suggest that ashwagandha could be a promising treatment for depression and anxiety, especially as the patients who received the extract had little or no side effects.
