This clinical trial investigated the effect of Turmacin, a standardized extract of Curcuma longa, on knee joint pain in healthy adults engaged in strenuous physical activity. 90 participants were randomly selected to receive either Turmacin or a placebo daily for 84 days. They were then subjected to strenuous physical activity and various parameters such as pain scores, range of motion (ROM) of the knee and muscle strength were assessed. The results showed that both Turmacin doses significantly reduced the final pain scores compared to placebo from day 5 and 7 respectively. Survival analysis indicated a lower risk of early onset of pain in the Turmacin groups. In addition, Turmacin improved knee ROM and muscle strength compared to placebo. While the differences in muscle strength between the Turmacin groups were not significant, the within-group analysis indicated better muscle function at the higher Turmacin dose. Overall, Turmacin was effective in increasing pain threshold and knee ROM in healthy participants with minor adverse events.
