In India, iron deficiency anemia has been prevalent for years, partly due to poor tolerability of oral iron supplements. This study investigates the clinical safety and efficacy of traditional medicine, in this case Dhatri Lauha, for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia.
The study was conducted at 12 different centers, each with a sample of 40 participants aged between 18 and 60 years. The decisive factors were the hemoglobin value, the mean single red cell volume (MCV), the mean hemoglobin concentration in red cells (MCHC) as well as the ferritin and iron values.
The participants were given 500 mg Dhatri Lauhacapsules twice a day with meals for 45 days. After 45 days, the scientists found significant differences for all parameters. There were no undesirable side effects.
These results suggest that Dhatri Lauha is a safe intervention that can be expected to improve hemoglobin levels, red blood cell parameters and iron stores in patients with IDA.
