With this study, the researchers wanted to find out what effects climatotherapy has on the self-management of people with psoriasis. It was a prospective study of 254 adults with chronic psoriasis who participated in a 3-week climatotherapy (KT) program. The 8-scale Health Education Impact Questionnaire (heiQ) was completed at baseline, after 3 weeks of KT and 3 months later.
All heiQ scales showed a statistically significant improvement after 3 weeks of KT. Health-oriented activity improved the most, followed by emotional stress and acquisition of skills and techniques. At the 3-month follow-up, only the Emotional Stress scale remained improved. In addition , the severity of illness improved significantly from pre-CT to 3 weeks and 3 months post-CT.
This study suggests that climatotherapy offers a number of benefits that are important for people with psoriasis, especially in the short term.
