The aim of the study is to demonstrate the effects of the "halotherapy chamber with artificial salt mine environment" of the National Institute for Rehabilitation, Physical Medicine and Balneoclimatology on patients with bronchial asthma and other chronic, infectious-inflammatory and allergic respiratory diseases . The clinical effects on non-specific resistance factors, inflammatory markers and immunological changes were investigated.
The patients were clinically examined, including hematological tests, analyses of non-specific resistance to infection, inflammatory markers, immunological parameters as well as sodium and potassium concentrations, mineralocorticoid function and other biochemical tests. For the experimental HT therapy, 15 patients with bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were selected. A control group of four patients with similar diseases received only medication at home.
After the specific halotherapy treatment, the patients with bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and COPD as well as other chronic inflammatory and allergic respiratory diseases showed an activation of anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic mechanisms as well as a healing effect on inflammatory processes. In addition, the data collected showed that halotherapy reduced sensitization of the body in patients with bronchial asthma.
