The Seven Chakras

In Yoga and Ayurveda, the seven Chakras are what make up a person’s being.  Running upward along the spine from its base to the top of the head, each Chakra represents a different part of your personhood.  While each chakra is different, they all share the same general characteristics.  While unable to be physically seen, one can picture a chakra as a spinning wheel, hovering in place, connecting the physical person to the energetic person.  In Sanskrit, the energy is called Prana, or translated to ‘Life Force Energy.’

When all the chakras align there is a strong connection between the physical and energetic presence of life. Moreover, when a chakra is blocked it can lead to illness physically, mentally, or spiritually.  Chakras can become blocked for a variety of reasons, but often it can be something as little as stress to set things off balance.

It is important to identify and understand all seven chakras to ensure one can properly address blockages.  Each chakras has a main function connected to it’s location and its colour association.

Seven Chakras

Traditionally, Chakras are counted from the base up as follows:

1st Chakra: Root Chakra – Regulates Survival
2nd Chakra: Sacral Chakra – Regulates Creativity
3rd Chakra: Solar Plexis Chakra – Regulates Sense of Self
4th Chakra: Heart Chakra – Regulates Emotion
5th Chakra: Throat Chakra – Regulates Expression
6th Chakra: Third Eye Chakra – Regulates Intuition
7th Chakra: Crown Chakra – Regulates Spirituality

Those sensing they may be out of balance, should take action to open up blocked chakras.  Activites such as yoga and meditation can be a great way to begin.  Additionally, if thigs are far out balance, and Ayurvedic Detox or Intensive Yoga Retreat may be a better route to go.  At SpaDreams we beleive that taking ones health seriously is the only way to live a well, balanced life.  If you are interested in an Ayurveda Detox or learning more about Yoga Retreats feel free to contact one of the SpaDreams staff, who are experts in Ayurveda & Yoga wellness and wellness travel.
