Your Hotel
☀ Located on the southwest coast of India in the state of Kerala, Poovar Island Resort is located between the Arabian Sea and a picturesque estuary of the Backwaters, reachable by the hotel's own boat (approx. 10 min., inclusive). To the paradisiacal sandy beach approx. 5 min. boat trip (sometimes under currents and higher surf, not recommended for swimming). The environmentally conscious resort is located in a tropical garden and is distributed like a small village between the main building with reception, several outbuildings and the Ayurveda Village with pool, Ayurveda restaurant and Ayurveda centre, built exclusively for Ayurveda guests.
Poovar & Environment
As one of the first resorts in Kerala, Poovar Island Resort has installed a solar power system that produces part of the resort's electricity. In addition, there are small windmills and solar lights that provide cosy light in the garden in the evenings. A water purification plant treats the waste water so that it can be used for irrigating the herb and vegetable garden. The harvested herbs, fruits and vegetables are used for the preparation of Ayurvedic dishes and oils. A solar boat and several electric cars carry the guests. These and many other activities in the resort and the surrounding area distinguish it as a model of sustainable tourism in its region.
How You Reside
A total of 86 cottages with satellite TV, telephone, coffee/tea set and minibar are spread throughout the area. In the Ayurveda Village there are 16 cottages (approx. 40 sqm) with open bathroom, air conditioning (for a fee) and view of the exclusive pool for Ayurveda guests, including 8 New Ayurveda cottages. Additionally 2 Ayurveda Suite Cottages (approx. 70 sqm) with optically separated living/sleeping area. Alternative accommodation in the resort, crossed by green areas and water basins, 44 country cottages (approx. 50 sqm) built in one to two-storey Kerala-style residential units, with indoor bathroom, air conditioning (for a fee), balcony/veranda. Somewhat off 8 Premier Land Cottages, more spacious and with more exclusive bathrooms. Tasteful 16 floating cottages floating on the backwater arm with fan, glazed bedroom and balcony/terrace overlooking the backwaters.
