Giman Free Ayurveda Retreat in detail

Your Holiday Destination

☀ The east coast of Sri Lanka is a forgotten gemstone that has been untouched for three decades due to ethnic conflict. The recent increase in tourism can be felt all over Sri Lanka – but not here, although the region has so much potential. The east coast is well known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and clear blue waters. Due to the prevailing meteorological divide on the island, as opposed to the west coast, the summer months are the best time to visit the region. The region of Batticaloa, between Trincomalee and Arugam Bay, is a particularly picturesque and unspoilt area: pretty villages, shallow waters plus a rich diving and snorkelling paradise with a fascinating underwater world.

Your Ayurveda Resort

In recent times the east coast has developed intensively with regards to Ayurveda tourism. The Giman Free Resort is one of the first and most traditional Ayurveda hotels, offering Ayurveda in an unspoilt, natural setting. The lush vegetation surrounding the grounds shields the guests from noise and everyday hectic and contributes to the unique ambience of the resort. Straw rooved houses, direct access to the beach, the small but professional Ayurveda spa and the traditional cuisine - offering all guests a delicious dosha appropriate meal - all make the resort extra special. The resort highly values sustainable tourism. The attractive pool area is found at the entrance to the resort. The lawned areas around the bungalows are perfect for relaxing, reading and sunbathing.

How You Reside

Bungalows are located along the beach front facing the sea interspersed with bushes and palms. The rooms, which are distributed between double bungalows and two storey chalets, are spacious and decorated with purist charm. WiFi (connection not always guaranteed), flat screens and large king size beds complete the comfortable ambience. Large bathroom with open shower and foot bath cater for the Ayurvedic wellbeing, particularly during the detox phases. All balconies/terraces facing beach. Rooms on first floor offer a scenic view of the sea.

Description of available rooms

Dining & Entertainment

Ayurvedic cuisine offered in the generous open restaurant, focussing on local home produced produce.

Ayurveda & Health

The resort’s Ayurveda centre is run by Dr. Thangavadivel and Dr. Jeyaluxmi and offers Ayurveda based physical and psychological treatments as well as Panchakarma cleansing techniques. Yoga accompanies the treatment programme. The nutritional plan is determined with the doctor in accordance with the guest’s personal needs. The aim of treatments is to bring back the balance of the doshas (life forces). The three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha are the fundamental energy behind Ayurvedic theory.

For those requiring action , several local excursions are possible from the Giman Free Resort eg Trincomalee or Batticaloa lagoon. Diving and snorkelling is possible directly at the resort.
