Highlights Sri Lanka in Detail

Your Hotel

1st day: Polonnaruwa

Arrival and reception at Colombo airport, transfer to the hotel in Sigiriya/Habarana.

In the afternoon drive to Polonnaruwa - archaeological park, UNESCO world heritage site and one of the oldest royal cities in the country. Discover ruins of impressive craftsmanship and the 12th century rock temple Gal Vihara with its 4 monumental Buddha statues carved out of the rock. The reclining Buddha is 14 meters long and the standing statue is 7 meters tall. Optional: Bike tour through the ruins (surcharge € 7). Short refreshment stop at the reservoir Parakrama Samudra, return to the hotel. Dinner/overnight stay.

2nd day: Sigiriya - Dambulla - Kandy

Climb the world famous Sigiriya Fortress from the 5th century A.D. with its frescoes of the Cloud Girls, including a breathtaking 360° view from the top of the mountain. Sigiriya means Lion Rock, because the original staircase to the summit led through the throat of a huge granite lion. The geometrically designed water garden with its fountain is the oldest artificially created garden in Asia. Alternative for the experienced: instead of Sigiriya, demanding Pidurangala Rock (discount € 28). Continuation to Dambulla, visit the magnificent cave temples from the 1st century B.C. with their fascinating wall paintings and impressive Buddha figures (UNESCO World Heritage Site). If desired, stop in the spice garden, then continue to Kandy to the hotel. City tour through the lively streets of Kandy, since 1590 for 225 years capital of Sri Lanka, with visit of the famous tooth temple and impressive, traditional dance performance. Dinner and overnight stay.

3rd day: Randeniya

The day begins with a walk in the Royal Botanical Garden in Kandy. Visit to the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Randeniya. There you will have a guided tour of the museum, elephant walk, feeding and bathing (approx. 45') as well as a visit to the elephant excrement paper factory.
