Sri Lanka Active Tour in Detail

Private Tour 4 Days / 3 Nights

Day 1: Anuradhapura – Sigiriya

Welcome at Colombo Airport, transfer to Anuradhapura, the first royal city of Sri Lanka. Explore the massive stupas (Buddhist structures) and significant ruins of the ancient city with numerous temples and monastic complexes dating back to pre-Christian times, including the Sri Maha Bodhi, believed to be a descendant of the fig tree where Buddha attained enlightenment. Anuradhapura was the centre of Sinhalese and Buddhist culture for over 14 centuries. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa

Explore the famous 5th-century fortress of Sigiriya. The geometrically designed water garden with its fountain is the oldest man-made garden in Asia. Alternatively, for the adventurous: instead of Sigiriya, a challenging climb of Pidurangala Rock (discount €26). Followed by a village tour with a home visit, then transfer to Polonnaruwa. Explore the 12th-century rock temple Gal Vihara and the impressive Parakrama Samudra reservoir. Optional: bike tour through the ruins, possibly greeting some of the local monkeys (surcharge €6). Dinner and overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 3: Dambulla - Kandy

Continue to Dambulla, the city with the largest rose quartz deposits in Sri Lanka. Visit the magnificent 1st-century BC cave temples with their fascinating wall paintings and impressive Buddha sculptures (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Optional short stop at the spice garden. Then, a city tour of Kandy, the capital of Sri Lanka from 1590 for 225 years, including a visit to the famous Temple of the Tooth and an impressive traditional dance performance. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Kandy - Randeniya

Continue the city tour of Kandy and visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Then, visit the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Randeniya. Enjoy a museum tour, elephant walk, feeding, and bathing (approx. 45 minutes) as well as a visit to the elephant dung paper factory. Transfer to the airport (hotel transfer at an additional cost).
