Highlights of Sri Lanka in Detail

Private Tour 2 nights / 3 days

Day 1: Polonnaruwa

Arrival and reception at Colombo Airport, transfer to the hotel in Sigiriya/Habarana.
In the afternoon, travel to Polonnaruwa - archaeological park, UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest royal cities of the country. Discover ruins of impressive craftsmanship and the rock temple Gal Vihara from the 12th century with its 4 monumental Buddha statues carved out of the rock. The reclining Buddha is 14 meters long and the standing statue is 7 meters tall. Optional: bike tour through the ruins (surcharge €6 (approx. UK £5 / USD $6)). Short refreshment stop at the Parakrama Samudra reservoir, return to the hotel. Dinner/overnight stay.

Day 2: Sigiriya – Dambulla – Kandy

Climb the world-famous Sigiriya Fortress from the 5th century AD, featuring the frescoes of the Cloud Maidens, including a breathtaking 360° view from the summit. Sigiriya means Lion Rock, as the original staircase to the summit passed through the mouth of a huge granite lion. The geometrically designed water garden with its fountain is the oldest artificially created garden in Asia. Alternatively for the experienced: instead of Sigiriya, challenging Pidurangala Rock (discount €26 (approx. UK £22 / USD $27)). Continue to Dambulla, visit the magnificent cave temples from the 1st century BC with fascinating wall paintings and impressive Buddha figures (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Optional stop at the spice garden, then continue to Kandy to the hotel. City tour through the vibrant streets of Kandy, which was the capital of Sri Lanka for 225 years from 1590, including a visit to the famous Tooth Temple and an impressive traditional dance performance. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Randeniya

The day begins with a walk in the Royal Botanical Garden in Kandy. Visit the Millennium Elephant Foundation in Randeniya. There, enjoy a museum tour, elephant walk, feeding, and bath (approx. 45 minutes) as well as a visit to the elephant dung paper factory. Drive to the airport (transfer to the hotel for an additional fee).
