A popular and comfortable Ayurveda resort by the Aitken Spence Group, featuring a friendly atmosphere, its own meditation and yoga centre, and the original Ayurveda Panchakarma therapy at the modern Ayurveda Center. The design is by Geoffrey Bawa.
Located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka in Beruwela, known for its stunning sandy beaches, right on the beach lies the Heritance Ayurveda Maha Gedara by the Aitken Spence Group. Originally designed by the renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa, one can still feel the peace and harmony emanating from the design characterised by clear colours and shapes – it's worth a visit! The 'Heritance' concept is particularly aimed at guests who want to experience Sri Lanka's cultural heritage with Ayurveda, engage with it, or seek tips and support for their daily lives. The expansive 4-star resort awaits you with an environmentally friendly, bright atmosphere where Ayurveda is the central theme in a comfortable and relaxed setting. Only Ayurveda guests and their travel companions are accommodated here. With an innovative solar photovoltaic system, a solar hot water system, and a biogas plant using kitchen waste as the primary source, the renowned resort sets a good example for sustainable tourism. The transfer time from the airport is approximately 2-3 hours.
The spacious, open Ayurveda restaurant overlooking the pool and garden offers healthy meals from the buffet or as a menu in harmony with Ayurveda – typically traditional dishes where taste, effect, and presentation are central and are prepared under the supervision of Ayurveda doctors. The dishes are predominantly vegetarian, with chicken or white fish occasionally available. Guests learn to select food suitable for their body type. On cleansing days, meals are served.
The beautiful outdoor pool in the extensive garden area with water features, as well as quiet zones and seating areas, invite you to relax.
The expansive Ayurveda Center, based on the unique Ayubowan concept ('Live Longer'), is a haven of tranquility. 24 therapy rooms with water fountains and a pond create a unique, soothing atmosphere for relaxation. The center also features herbal steam baths, herbal baths, and an Ayurveda pharmacy. A small herb garden is cultivated to acquaint guests with the natural ingredients used in the therapies. Our extensive team of qualified and experienced Ayurveda doctors and therapists perform authentic Ayurveda treatments using pure oils and herbs. Additionally, acupuncture treatments are also available.
Find peace and reflection in our dedicated Meditation and Yoga Center, offering yoga approximately 1-2 times daily and meditation about twice a week, weather permitting, by the pool.
In the Ayurveda library, you can explore numerous manuscripts. There's also a shop for souvenirs and handicrafts, a fitness room, TV lounge, laundry service, currency exchange, and an Internet PC. Enjoy our weekly 'Mocktail Party' with the Ayurveda doctors and hotel management. Lectures on Ayurveda, cooking demonstrations for preparing Ayurvedic dishes, and cultural evenings with music events and trips to religious ceremonies are offered from time to time.

It was good so far - but the hotel is a bit outdated, especially the rooms, and it was just too crowded!

The vacation was extremely relaxing; however, the Ayurveda retreat is not without its challenges. The Ayurveda clinic is very beautiful. The tubs for the herbal baths are outdoors, so it felt as if you had landed in paradise. I recovered very well, especially thanks to the caring doctor, the benevolent massage team and the exclusive presence of Ayurveda guests. The food was excellent. The hotel was full and unfortunately the rooms were not made up until the afternoon, which was a shame when we returned from the therapies. It should be noted that the rooms are made on the last day (after the flower bath). This would greatly enhance the good feeling at the end of the therapy. However, the general ambience was relaxing and pleasant.
