Review 16 days of classic Ayurveda retreat, January Aim: regeneration after illness, Ayurveda newcomers as a couple --- Treatments and care The treatments seem authentic and carefully carried out. Even if you don't understand some things (after a massage with herbal oil directly into the bathtub with herbs? Surely the oil should remain on the skin and the herbs in the bath water don't come through the oil layer?), the recommendation is to enjoy without analyzing - the enlightened patient would perhaps prefer it with explanations. However, the doctors are available to answer questions. We had a few fears before the healing therapy, which we can refute, the laxative day was over after one visit to the toilet :) Overall relaxing massages. A typical day includes, for example, 20 minutes of head massage, 30 minutes of herbal stamp massage, 20 minutes of foot massage and herbal bath, some additional special massages for tension or nose oil etc. The team is very attentive and friendly, the therapists work long hours but remain professional. I find additional services such as pedicures for €29 without polish relatively expensive. Additional offers: Yoga up to three times a day, meditation three times a day, aqua aerobics and a bar ensure that there is enough variety and relaxation despite a full treatment schedule. Large selection of German books --- Culinary criticism The Ayurveda buffet is my biggest criticism. I had expected, if not personalized, then varied, inspiring Ayurvedic cuisine - we got mostly the same dishes every day, for lunch and dinner: for example, sliced vegetables in a uniform curry sauce, rice and lentils, alternating fried fish or chicken, with a side dish of white flour, plus sliced fruit and: Dessert with sugar and cow's milk - you don't understand the concept that sugar is used on the one hand, but you can't refine the dishes on the other. Graduated labeling would be desirable to indicate what is more or less suitable. All in all, as I said, disappointing for us in the long run, as we cook fresh and varied meals ourselves at home. There are salad ingredients, but as Europeans we are reluctant to use them. According to a guest, special diets such as sugar-free desserts are also not available, even after repeated requests. There is a lack of inspiration and variety, lovingly prepared dishes and high-quality ingredients such as healthy fats or avocado. The normal restaurant, on the other hand, offers menus with much more sophistication (crab, lamb skewers, etc.). This makes the situation unpleasant: you feel like the unloved stepsister at the Ayurveda buffet. And you've been here for a long time because of the healing therapies. On the other hand, this allows you to cheat from time to time - everyone has different ideas and here you have the freedom. --- Hotel and surroundings The hotel is beautiful, large garden with shade and retreats, the rooms are very well maintained, the beach is picturesque (swimming not recommended due to undercurrents). The staff is generally very(!) friendly and helpful. The island with the temple is worth seeing. We were admittedly disillusioned by the main street and the surrounding area, you shouldn't imagine a promenade or shopping here. There are stalls and lovely vendors and stores on the beach --- Conclusion and recommendation - For beginners and "mixed couples": Well suited because you have alternative options and the treatments are authentic and apparently not so strict - For Ayurvedic purists: Rather disappointing because of the cuisine and not quite consistent Panchakarma - In short: Effective treatments, beautiful hotel, extremely relaxing, but the Ayurvedic cuisine should be more loving
