Lotus Villa in Detail

Your Ayurveda Resort

Lotus Villa is located in the southwest of Sri Lanka on the long sandy beach of Ahungalla in an idyllic garden with a waterfall and meditation fountain. Opened in 1982, initially used as a guest house and later distinguished as an Ayurveda Hospital in 1998, this facility, specializing in traditional Ayurveda, is still managed by the Austrian founding family, the Hubers. The founder, Peter Huber, experienced firsthand the healing powers of Ayurveda, which led to the success story of the resort. The villa welcomes guests with a very familial atmosphere and personal service, impressing with Western standards and high environmental awareness. Its own water treatment facility ensures that tap water is purified to international standards for drinking, and wastewater is treated for use in irrigating the vegetable/herb garden. Organic products from the garden are used in the kitchen and the Ayurveda pharmacy. Plastic is replaced by glass.

Dining & Leisure

Experience the charm of our open, lovingly designed Ayurveda restaurant with sea view, where ayurvedic dishes tailored to your constitution type (Dosha) are freshly and individually served. Sometimes, nuances in preparation (such as with or without salt) determine whether the dish is merely nourishment or also medicine for you. The individual meal plans of each guest are communicated by the Ayurveda head physician to the chefs, and their correct implementation is carefully monitored. Delicious fruits, coconuts, and vegetables from our own organic cultivation often round off your menu. At Lotus Villa, you are invited to forget time and truly embrace the moment without wearing a watch. You will be called to meals by a bell (and personally to treatments) - a delightful spectacle.

Ayurveda Center

The traditional Ayurveda prevention, care, and intensive rehabilitation programmes at Lotus Villa are designed for those who seek a holistic engagement with themselves and their personal condition, appreciating medically high-quality Ayurveda in a familial setting. Suitable for pre and post-care for various conditions (e.g., women's ailments, post-Covid). At the Ayurveda Center or the on-site clinic, you will find the professionalism and passion of a well-coordinated team of experienced Ayurveda doctors, therapists, and nurses. Assistant doctors and therapists are available around the clock.

At Lotus Villa, treatments are not provided on request but are prescribed by doctors tailored to you and the best possible treatment success. The facility offers several massage rooms, herbal and steam baths in traditional local style, an Ayurvedic herbal sauna, and a stone oil tub for skin treatments. The prescribed treatments and the reasons for their selection will be carefully explained to you, and a translator is available if requested at booking.

In the licensed production area, the Ayurveda pharmacy with an oil kitchen, oils for treatments and Ayurvedic medicine are produced in-house. In the Ayurveda garden, plants grow for Ayurvedic medicine, which is not a necessary part of the treatment (depending on the indication). The products are exclusively for hotel guests and are not for national or international sale; however, purchases can be made for post-treatment at home if needed.

Additional consultations with specialists in cancer, stroke, dermatology, ENT, and dentistry, as well as with Western-trained doctors are available, with blood and urine tests among others for a fee (payable on-site). German-speaking translators for doctor visits and to explain the treatment plan are available without charge.

A pavilion by the sea offers Yoga, meditation, and Qi Gong (meditation in motion) as part of the therapy.

Free Time

The expansive garden, shaded by coconut palms, offers tropical vastness, fresh sea air, and a dreamy view of the sea and the extensive Ahungalla sandy beach (with round-the-clock security service). Additionally, the pool with sun loungers and the library with books in English invite you to relax in the garden. The leisure offerings at Lotus Villa are diverse, ranging from traditional music by the Lotus Villa Band to magic or dance performances, as well as Sinhalese language or Ayurvedic cooking classes. Excursions are available starting from the second week, as the first week is meant for restful tranquility on the peaceful grounds.

Hotel rooms at a glance

The Lotus Villa boasts 19 small yet exquisite rooms, designed with a focus on tranquility, simplicity, and rejuvenation. Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan, mosquito net, alarm bell, and Wi-Fi. Air conditioning is intentionally omitted to avoid cooling the body during Ayurvedic detoxification - cold air could hinder the natural cleansing process. Similarly, the absence of TV, newspapers, and telephones is a deliberate choice to minimize external stimuli and enhance the restorative value. 16 rooms offer sea views, while 3 face the garden. Within these categories, there are both double and designated single rooms available: Four single rooms are located near the sea close to the yoga hall, and another single room is in the main building. There is also a single room on the garden side. The remaining rooms are spacious and ideally suited for double occupancy or single use. Room allocation is always dependent on occupancy: solo travellers are accommodated in single rooms if available, or in double rooms for single use at no extra charge compared to the single room rate. Upon request booked via SpaDreams, wheelchair-accessible rooms and combination rooms with connecting doors are also available.

Lotus Villa is the place for the best Ayurvedic experience. All staff are smiling and at your service. Nothing is a problem there; you just need to mention what you need if they haven't noticed already.
