Senhora da Rosa Tradition & Nature Hotel in Detail

Your Wellness & Yoga Hotel

Nestled between mountains and the Atlantic, just a ten-minute drive from Ponta Delgada, Senhora da Rosa graces the island of São Miguel in the Azores. Housed in a lovingly restored 18th-century quinta, spanning three hectares, this estate once harvested oranges and later pineapples. Its over 200-year history is palpable in every corner. 35 elegant rooms and suites blend antique finds with modern design, set against the backdrop of lush island nature. The expansive Musgo Spa, complete with sauna, yoga, and Pilates, is complemented by an outdoor pool, padel court, and regional cuisine from partly home-grown sources. Embraced sustainability makes your stay a retreat between tradition, nature, and elegance.

Location & Surroundings

São Miguel is often regarded as the green heart of the Azores, and the entire island beckons to be explored. Everywhere unfolds a landscape straight out of a storybook: volcanic craters with shimmering crater lakes, steaming thermal springs down to the sea, expansive viewpoints, and solitary lighthouses atop the cliffs. Steaming earth, lush hydrangea hedges, and tea and pineapple plantations narrate the tale of an island shaped by centuries of volcanism and seafaring. The vibrant port city of Ponta Delgada, with its cobbled streets and cafes, also invites for a visit. A place of longing for hikers, explorers, and all who cherish the rugged beauty of the Atlantic.

Dining & Leisure

At Senhora da Rosa, the culinary focus is on the Azores. Magma Restaurant serves regionally inspired contemporary dishes, using ingredients partly sourced from its own kitchen garden. For those who enjoy surprises, an evening tasting menu is available. Perched high above, the Mirante Rooftop-Bar tops the hotel, where local products, especially fish, meet Asian influences, and in summer, the terrace becomes the perfect spot for sunset views over the island. The Magma Bar offers a sociable end to the evening with drinks, light snacks, soft music, and a snooker table; during cooler months, afternoon tea is served here.

Wellness & Spa

The Musgo Spa, spanning 600 square metres, invites you to leave everyday life behind and recharge with new energy. In four serene treatment rooms, massages and revitalising or moisturising treatments with organic products caress the skin and senses. The sauna and steam bath envelop you in comforting warmth, while the heated plunge pool in a historic pineapple greenhouse invites you to long, soothing baths. For those who prefer to relax under the open sky, the outdoor pool amidst the gardens is perfect for swimming.

Yoga & Pilates

Yoga and Pilates harmonise body and mind, with Pilates guided in the studio on a reformer. From Ashtanga Primary Series to Vinyasa Flow and Partner Yoga, there's something for every preference, with all accessories such as mats, straps, blocks, and cushions provided. Sessions are held in tranquil rooms within the hotel and, weather permitting, outdoors in the garden, where the gentle greenery of the Quinta enhances the practice.

Fitness & Courses

For those keen to stay active, our fitness area offers a treadmill, bicycle, and cross-trainer for personal workouts. Upon request, a personal trainer can tailor a bespoke programme aligned with your individual goals. The area is available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sustainability

Sustainability at Senhora da Rosa is not just a buzzword, but a way of life. Fresh fruits and vegetables are partly sourced from our own garden, supplemented by products from local producers. Room amenities include care products from a regional manufacturer. The operation also follows the principle of conserving resources: A significant portion of the electricity is generated by an in-house photovoltaic system, and the sauna and steam bath are heated on demand. Upon check-out, guests are invited to donate one euro to the community initiative Movimento 1 Euro, which channels small contributions into social projects. Thus, your stay becomes a retreat that consciously considers nature and the local region.

Free Time

The expansive Quinta estate, spanning approximately three hectares, is a perfect place to relax: nestled among gardens and old farm buildings, you'll find many tranquil spots, an outdoor pool, and a heated plunge pool in a historic pineapple greenhouse. Get active on the Padel court, available for hourly rental (depending on the day of the week, 12 to 16€ (approx. UK £10 / USD $13) per hour). For our younger guests, there's a dedicated Kids Club for play and making new friends. Those eager to explore the island can receive numerous suggestions and tips from our team, from hiking and canyoning to surf lessons, horse riding, mountain biking, and even whale watching.

Hotel rooms at a glance

A total of 35 rooms are spread across several categories: one Standard Single, three Mini Standard Double, 16 Standard Double, and eleven Deluxe Double, plus a Junior Suite and a Family Suite. Standard and Deluxe rooms are also available as twin rooms upon request. A unique feature are the two Tranquility Garden Lodges, detached wooden cottages about 200 meters from the main building, modelled after the old storage huts of the Quinta, and with their own balcony overlooking the garden. The decor is entirely inspired by the nature of São Miguel: warm colours and soft textures meet antique and modern furniture as well as relics from the former farm. This creates a homely, peaceful atmosphere in each room.
