Perched on a cliff, the historic 5-star luxury hotel of the Raviz Group, The Leela Kovalam, a Raviz Hotel, is located on the rocky promontories of the coastal town of Kovalam, in the southern state of Kerala. The approximately 700 sqm Favorite Kerala Ayurveda & Spa is managed by several doctors (including Ayurveda), supported by a professional team of therapists. It is awarded the Green Leaf Award by the Department of Tourism of Kerala, the highest accolade for authentic Ayurveda. Treatments are prescribed by the Ayurveda doctor based on focus and constitution, such as Udvartana powder massage, Pinda Sveda herbal poultice massage, Shirodhara oil forehead flow, Abhyanga or Pizhichil massage, Mukhalepam facial care, and Njavarakizhi rice bag massage. The herbs are sourced from the hotel's own organic greenhouse, and treatments are conducted in renovated and newly equipped consultation and treatment rooms (indoor and outdoor). There are premium sea view rooms (approx. 46 sqm) with balconies on the cliffs or with beach views, club rooms (recommended for Ayurveda guests) and suites on the cliff edge with sea views in the exclusive club wing. Our first Ayurveda retreat was a complete success! The hotel is right by the sea and is very well maintained. The cuisine and the spa are great! We felt completely at ease and recovered very well.

Hotel

We had a very nice room in the Club House, which is highly recommended if you are doing an Ayurveda retreat. It is much quieter than in the main building. The daily menu is served here in the café, so you don't have to go past the excellent buffet set up in the main building... From the very first day, we had a butler who took great care of us and was never intrusive. He gave us good tips if we wanted to see something outside the hotel, then organized the driver (from the hotel in fancy, air-conditioned limousines) organized our laundry (everything came back like new!) and whatever we wanted. Our room had a balcony overlooking the sea and was very clean and comfortable. Beautiful marble bathroom with shower (great shower spray!!), enough space and hangers for our clothes, a very comfortable bed and the room was always at a pleasant temperature thanks to the AC. Outside it was approx. 31*. Our housekeepers were excellent and also came back in the evening when we were at dinner to change our towels, etc. The kitchen had implemented our Ayurveda plan, which she received from the local doctor (after the initial consultation), in an excellent manner. Everything was freshly prepared for us and the chef came to us almost every day to check that everything was ok. There was fresh fruit, delicious salads and Ayurvedic curries with some rice or millet, sometimes gluten-free, thin ciabatta with dip. Water and tea. Every morning we were driven in a kind of golf caddy to the spa area (within the hotel grounds), where we received our Ayurvedic oil massages for 90 minutes from very good physio-therapists. Afterwards we were wrapped up in fluffy bathrobes and picked up again. Wonderful!!! The pool in front of the club house is at least 20 meters long. There are lovely loungers and you can spend time there in a very pleasant, quiet atmosphere. The beaches are very nice, but not really inviting for swimming. You don't lie down on the beach with a towel either. Nobody does that there. All in all, it was an extremely relaxing vacation in a very nice atmosphere and both my husband and I lost 4 kilos in 12 days and never felt hungry! Of course, there were also daily yoga and meditation classes, a gym, table tennis, archery and tennis courts (although it was too hot for that). We can highly recommend a stay at the Keela Lovaram Hotel!

The Ayurveda oil takes some getting used to at first because it smells very intense. It is obviously very good for detoxifying, but after three days I chose a slightly different smelling oil. My husband didn't mind it that much. Tastes are different! On the last day we treated ourselves to a Sweedish massage with aroma lotion. Super!
