The Sun Frankenberg in Detail

Your Wellness Hotel

The hotel The Sun Frankenberg is surrounded by historic half-timbered houses in the heart of Frankenberg's old town, right on the market square. Thus, it offers the perfect starting point for hiking or cycling tours, for example, to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kellerwald National Park or the picturesque Edersee. Just a few minutes' walk away, the Thonet Museum or quaint cafés invite you to linger.

Location & Surroundings

The homeland of the Brothers Grimm has much to offer in terms of landscape: The Ederbergland region is perfect for exploration by car, bicycle, or on foot. The surroundings provide a variety of hiking routes to suit every level of ambition – whether through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kellerwald, around the Edersee, or to the Hohenäcker quarry, the former brickworks. In the nearby area, there are also a wide range of leisure activities for both adults and children. From golf to sailing and diving, to the Waldecker mountain railway, Frankenberg offers a diverse travel experience. The city of Marburg is about 22 miles away, and Frankfurt is about 86 miles away.

Dining & Leisure

The two restaurants of the hotel showcase the culinary diversity of the region. The SonneStuben restaurant with its outdoor terrace dazzles with an amazing taste experience in a relaxed atmosphere. Once a week (mostly on Mondays), the hotel organises a tapas evening (at an additional cost). Until 10:30 a.m., enjoy a varied and rich breakfast buffet in the renovated breakfast room, featuring fresh regional products. The half board is served in the evening at the SonneStuben restaurant as a 3-course gourmet menu, including vegetarian options (other dietary requirements on request, with prior registration). In the Gourmetrestaurant Philipp Soldan (open Thu.-Sun., for an extra charge, pay on site), awarded a Michelin star and 17 points in Gault Millau for now over 10 years, you can enjoy a cuisine that is in harmony with nature and creativity - a combination of traditional products and modern dishes. The hotel predominantly uses regional ingredients, for example, bread freshly baked daily from an organic bakery, eggs from an organic farm, and meat of organic quality from a local butcher. Fresh drinks can be enjoyed in the cosy Philippo Lounge (exclusively for hotel guests).

Wellness & Spa

Experience pure relaxation at the SonneSpa (for guests aged 16 and over, saunas open daily from 3-8 p.m., extended hours available on request and subject to occupancy) spread over approximately 1,000 sqm featuring a Finnish sauna (about 194°F), sanarium (about 140°F), steam bath (about 113°F), plunge pool, ice fountain, wellness bath (about 91°F), hammam room, relaxation area including waterbed loungers and a small outdoor area. The rooftop terrace is the perfect spot to unwind in good weather. Holistic natural therapies and spa treatments (Wed.-Sun. 9 a.m.-6 p.m.) provided by trained pampering experts engage all senses, leading to complete relaxation. The massages, scrubs, baths, and wraps are primarily based on high-quality, natural products such as honey, oils, or herbs, mainly featuring premium brands eponé and BIODROGA.

For those looking to energize, there's a small, modernly equipped gym (Mon.-Fri. 5 a.m.-9 p.m., Sat. & Sun. 8 a.m.-8 p.m.).

Free Time

The hotel's ideal location invites you to extensive hiking and cycling tours in the surroundings of Frankenberg. On the edge of Frankenberg (about 1 mile from the hotel), there is a wildlife park where you can observe and feed wild animals such as deer, stags, and wild boars. Hiking backpacks, filled with culinary delights and optionally beer or wine and an activity map with helpful tips, can be rented at the hotel for a fee (approx. €49/person). Additionally, the hotel offers e-bikes for rent (approx. €39/day, subject to availability). Hiking or cycling maps are available on site. To discover North Hesse, the MeineCardPlus is also suitable. With this card, you can use up to 140 leisure activities including public transport.

Kellerwald

Located in North Hesse, the Kellerwald mountain range is home to one of the largest German beech forest areas and is known for the approximately 370 square miles large Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park - the only national park in Hesse. Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2011, it invites you with its vast beech forests, genuine primeval forest remnants, rocky slopes, and countless streams to hike, explore, and relax. Since April 2024, the hotel has been an official partner of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park.
