Location & Surroundings

St. Joachimsthal is nestled on the southern slopes of the Ore Mountains, close to the German border. The healing successes of the spa are based on the noble gas radon. In the 16th century, Joachimsthal was one of the most significant cities in Europe due to its minting rights. The town's history is closely linked with the mining of silver, tin, and uranium. The last active mine in Joachimsthal, named Svornost, supplies the treatment areas with radon water.
The historic town centre of Joachimsthal is a protected zone featuring Renaissance-Gothic style buildings. In the tranquil spa district in the lower part of the town, you will find not only spa hotels, restaurants, and the Aquacentre Agricola with a mine sauna, but also a picturesque spa park with a music pavilion, a children's playground, and a small lake. The spa district is surrounded by a forest park with numerous hiking trails.

Free Time

The Ore Mountains are a paradise for hiking, cycling, and skiing. Thematic trails such as the Radon Theme Trail, the Hell of Joachimsthal, and the Gottesgaber Peat Bog Trail, among others. Excursions: Loket Castle, the Porcelain and Glass Museum in Karlovy Vary. Oberwiesenthal in the Ore Mountains is just 7 miles away. 18-hole Karlovy Vary Golf Club and Cihelny Golf Club (about 3.7 miles), Marianske Lazne Golf Club (about 25 miles).

A visit to the "underground treasures" of the region is worthwhile and can be perfectly combined with sports activities and wellness.

I went to this radon healing therapy with my sister and we were very satisfied overall. The hotel is very nice, the organization runs smoothly, the food was very tasty and our room was really big and very elegant. The beds were great, we had a wonderful night's sleep. The staff made every effort to please us. Apart from a few small things, which are easy to overlook, we were very satisfied overall. We recommend this trip and feel well rested.

Hotel

The hotel is very elegant, but its best days are behind it. According to a member of staff, the hotel has been under new ownership for five years and little has been done in the way of maintenance since then. Unfortunately, you can see this in some places.

Service

The staff at reception speak very good German and were able to answer all questions well. What we were missing was a guide to the procedures in the hotel, because when you are there for the first time you don't know exactly where to go and what is usual. The rooms are not cleaned very thoroughly, but if you talk to the staff, everything is done well. The ladies in the spa department are a bit brusque, but very cordial once you get to know them better. The service in the restaurant is quick, discreet and very well organized. What we did find a little disconcerting was the fact that we had to deal with a member of staff at the initial check-in who hardly spoke any German and took ages to fill out the relevant form for us. The other guests had to wait a correspondingly long time in the corridor. As the parking spaces for the car are very far down the street, you have to climb quite a few stairs to get to the hotel. It would be helpful if the door to the café was always kept open during opening hours and not locked. If this is the case, you have to walk around the entire hotel complex to get in via the main entrance.

Board type

There is something for every taste, there is a buffet in the mornings and evenings and it leaves nothing to be desired. What bothered us a little was that the second coffee machine broke down and nothing was repaired for three days. We then left and we don't know how much longer it will take. It's annoying given the number of guests.

Wellness area

The saunas are very small, but they are sufficient and the pool is equipped with many bubblers and a counter-current system, here we were very satisfied with the offer.
