The terraced Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort, adjacent to its sister resort Manaltheeram (about 10 minutes away), is perched on a hill offering a stunning sea view. Since opening its doors in 1985 to welcome its first guests, the resort has continuously evolved. Today, it boasts accreditations such as NABH (Ayurveda Hospital), has been awarded 'India's Best Ayurvedic Resort' four times with 'HALL OF FAME' honours, and six times as 'Kerala State's Best Ayurvedic Resort' by the state of Kerala. The fine sandy Chowara Beach (sun loungers, parasols, and beach towels included, please consult the lifeguard before swimming) is accessible via stairs or an elevator, which also leads to the newest sister resort, AyurSoma Ayurveda Royal Retreat.

Kerala, one of the most popular regions in South India, is renowned for its tropical climate, the extensive sandy beaches of the Malabar Coast, the Backwaters, waterfalls, and nature reserves with abundant wildlife.

Dining & Leisure

With sea view and a diverse Ayurvedic buffet. The vegetarian local and international dishes are marked according to Dosha, allowing you to select according to your dietary plan with the help of a dietary advisor. Guests focusing on weight management receive personalised menus. Evening cooking demonstrations impart the traditional knowledge of Ayurvedic cuisine.

Ayurveda Center

The Ayurveda Center at Somatheeram is housed in two special bungalows, covering approximately 5,250 sqm, and is awarded the "Ayurveda SPA Europe Certificate" and the Ayur Diamond Award from the Department of Tourism Government of Kerala, the highest recognition for authentic Ayurveda (formerly Green Leaf). Equipped with 30 treatment rooms, a sauna, and a steam bath. Professional Ayurveda treatments are supervised by about 15 qualified Ayurveda doctors, specialists in various disciplines, and Ayurvedic therapists. The garden, with over 600 plant species, provides the ingredients for the herbal medicine produced in the on-site Ayurveda pharmacy. The supplementary Ayurvedic medicine is made exclusively from herbal products. Soma Ayurveda Beauty Clinic offers body, face, and hair treatments tailored to your Dosha.

Yoga

For yoga and meditation with an experienced guru, two facilities are available. Group yoga sessions are held three times a day - choose your level (morning: professionals, mid-morning: beginners, afternoon: advanced). Private sessions are also available for approximately €10 (approx. UK £9 / USD $11) per hour.

Post-Chemo Therapy

Quote from the Chief Ayurveda Physician (2022): "21 days of immunization, revitalization program along with body cleansing therapies such as Panchakarma [...], to recover from radiation therapy and rejuvenate [the] system. [...] we have excellent medicines in Ayurveda available to rebuild the system post-surgery. If [the guest] undergoes our treatments and follow-up medications for 3 to 4 months, over time a positive recovery and body rebuilding is possible."

Free Time

Relax in the oyster-shaped outdoor pool (approximately 8 x 17 m) or spend your free time in the Internet cafe, tailor shop, or souvenir shop. Experience the cultural evening programme featuring traditional dance and music. The resort can also organize excursions to the surrounding area upon request.

The Somatheraam is perfect for regenerating body and mind, for absolute relaxation. Extremely good service, very friendly staff. Good location if you are looking for relaxation without adventure.
