The aim of the study under E. V. Sevostyanova was to evaluate the efficacy of decimeter wave therapy and halotherapy, which were used in addition to basic therapy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)in combination with hypertension in inpatient treatment.
36 patients aged 20 to 75 years with COPD in combination with hypertension were examined and treated. The clinical examination included assessment of symptoms and medical history, clinical-laboratory and instrumental studies (electrocardiography, spirometry) and health-related quality of life (using the SF-36 questionnaire). The patients were randomized into two groups: a study group and a comparison group. Patients in the study group received decimeter wave therapy and halotherapy in addition to the basic drug treatment; the comparison group received only the basic drug treatment.
The pre- and postoperative comparative analysis of the main clinical manifestations of the concomitant diseases showed more pronounced positive changes and a lower degree of clinical manifestations in the study group. A greater reduction in blood pressure (BP) was also observed when the target values were reached . Mean pulse BP decreased by 28% in the study group and showed no statistical decrease in the comparison group. Among patients in the study group, the integrated quality of life indicator increased statistically significantly by 35% after a package of medical rehabilitation measures. This indicator remained statistically unchanged in the comparison group.
The focus of the proposed rehabilitation complex on the common pathogenetic components of the development and progression of COPD and hypertension as well as the high efficiency of the complex justify its appropriate inclusion in the combined treatment and rehabilitation of this patient group.
