Mud treatments are a popular therapy for osteoarthritis. 147 sufferers took part in the study to test the effectiveness of mud therapy in terms of perceived pain intensity and health-related quality of life.
They were divided into two groups: 61 people were treated with eleven mud packs; the patients in the control group continued to receive routine treatment with medication.
All participants were examined before and after the treatment using the SF-60. Strong differences were observed between the two groups after mud treatment.
The main parameters were general health and especially pain perception. There was a clear improvement in these parameters with fango therapy and a simultaneous reduction in the administration of medication.
